Intravenous antibiotics

You decide to start Jack on intravenous antibiotics for his chest infection. Following protocol, you select Amoxicillin as the most appropriate antibiotic.

Before discharge, you reassess him:

HR 125/min, RR 35/min, T 37.5 C, SaO2 91% in Oxygen

His chest findings are unchanged – mild recession and reduced air entry on the right side.

Jack parents ask you what is going to happen next.

What is your plan now?

  • Chest radiograph
  • Intravenous dexamethasone
  • Discharge on oral antibiotics
  • Admit on salbutamol
  • Discharge and review in clinic
