Discharge on oral antibioticsJack’s parents are pleased to be discharged and wait to collect the amoxicillin before leaving. Jack is still coughing, and has refused some milk. His parents say that if he doesn’t improve they will come back.
Two days later the paediatric consultant asks for some information on Jack, particularly around his discharge. Apparently he was brought back by his parents the following day after discharge. His breathing was considerably worse and was quite blue in triage. He was taken immediately to the resuscitation area, given oxygen, intubated and moved to PICU. Later that day he underwent a bronchoscopy and a small plastic toy (Lego®) was removed from his right main bronchus. |
