Osmosis (plant and animal)

Learning Objectives:

After the completion of the Laboratory exercise students should be able to:

1. Define Osmosis.

2. Explain the importance of selective permeability and its role in Osmosis.

3. Define the terms hypotonic, isotonic, hypertonic solution with respect to the concentration of osmotically active substances.                                             

4. Explain how the structure and function of plant and animal cells is affected when incubated in hypotonic, isotonic, hypertonic solutions. Learn the appropriate terminology to explain the structural changes observed.
