Dobutamine (beta agonist)

You administer dobutamine as you remember that beta agonists are effective in increasing contractility and thus cardiac output in heart failure.

Later that evening, Dr. Taylor is frantically looking for you. She tells you that Mrs. Reed experienced ventricular fibrillation, presumably due to dobutamine. Mrs. Reed was treated appropriately and stabilised.

Dr. Taylor reminds you that inotropic therapy is required in patients with acute heart failure, when there is clinical evidence of hypotension associated with hypoperfusion to maintain systemic perfusion and preserve end-organ performance. This was not indicated in Mrs. Reed's case.

Since this is a virtual patient, you please go back and try again.
