Eric: I don’t think that is correct. I remember that genome sequencing focuses on determining the order of nucleotides in a DNA molecule. I don’t think this technique allows you to get that level of information, it rather allows you to identify band patterns from cleaving DNA at specific sites. 

You: You are right, Eric. I got mixed up, I remember now that restriction enzymes may be used in the initial preparation of DNA for sequencing by fragmenting large DNA molecules. Genome sequencing relies on sequencing technologies that read large stretches of DNA directly, rather than on the cutting action of restriction enzymes.

Eric: I can see why you would get mixed up, genome sequencing is increasingly being used in forensic science. These methods provide unique genetic markers that can identify individuals with high precision from biological samples.
