100x Objective

You are considering increasing the magnification further to 100X, as it might provide more detail. Your professor does not seem to agree with this choice.

Professor Johnson: "Before you proceed, let's think about the practicalities of using such high magnification."

You: "We did and we believe that 100X magnification give us even more detail."

Professor Johnson: "Yes, it can, but using a 100X objective comes with challenges. At this magnification, the depth of field becomes extremely shallow, meaning only a small portion of your sample will be in focus at a time. In addition, you need to use oil."

Sarah: "I thought that this would actually increase resolution?"

Professor Johnson: "You are right Sarah. While oil immersion can enhance resolution, using it requires precise technique and additional steps. We can still achieve good results with the 40X objective without complicating things.”

Sarah: "That makes sense. Let's try the 40X instead."

You follow Professor Johnson's advice opting for a 40X objective. You find that it strikes a balance between magnification and practicality, allowing them to capture clear and detailed images of their sample.
