Colchicine prescription

You prescribed colchicine to your patient because she was insisting that this was the appropriate medication for her. You had your doubts, because she did not fit the criteria for a gout diagnosis. On the other hand, she seems to be having symptoms of knee OA and her pain levels are not getting any better.

her knee is more swollen now. You will now follow the guidelines for knee OA treatment refer the patient to a rheumatologist. It's better to be clear about the diagnosis before prescribing drugs even if the patient keeps complaining. 

To manage her pain you can still prescribe NSAIDs and/or acetaminophen (these are the step 1 pharmacological treatment for managing OA pain according to guidelines) (see supporting information).
