She follows her friend's advice

Following her friend's advice, Mrs AP, visits her primary care physician. Her GP does a clinical examination of her hand and asks for blood work and X-rays. 

He then prescribes anti-inflammatory medication for the pain and suggests getting some rest for a few days avoiding doing house chores, lifting weights and overusing her hand.
