Conclusion

Charlie has a difficult recovery from her illness. She has some seizures on the day after the arrest, and an MRI scan shows features of hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy. The seizures settle on phenytoin, and she improves over the next week, coming off the ventilator after 4 days and starting feeds at 5 days.

Charlie is discharged home at 14 days after her initial presentation. Follow up with the developmental paediatricians is arranged.

Her blood tests also show that she is both iron deficient and vitamin D deficient. This is picked up in the PICU and at discharge she is on regular supplements. This will be monitored in clinic along with her development.
