Advise:

There is a higher risk of worsening, if retinopathy is present in preconception period. Additional risk factors for progression of retinopathy during pregnancy include preexisting hypertension, poorly controlled hypertension during pregnancy, preeclampsia and poor glycemic control at the onset of and during pregnancy. So:

R 1.5a If retinopathy is documented, the patient should be apprised of possible worsening during pregnancy. (ungraded)
