Chlorpropamide

Endocrinologist: This is not correct—let me explain why. Chlorpropamide, an older first-generation sulfonylurea, is no longer used routinely due to its longer half-life, increased risk of hypoglycaemia, and potential for adverse effects. More importantly, sulfonylureas like chlorpropamide are not recommended during pregnancy because they can cross the placenta and stimulate foetal pancreatic beta-cells, leading to hypoglycaemia in the newborn. Sulfonylureas should be avoided altogether in gestational diabetes. Please try again!
