Salmeterol (LABA)

This would not be an appropriate choice because Amy is already using a LABA (formoterol) in combination with budesonide. Prescribing salmeterol, another LABA, would provide no added benefit and could increase her risk of side effects (e.g., tremor, cardiac effects). Remember she has already experienced adverse effects due to formoterol. You also need to consider that you need a drug to address Amy’s symptoms and triggers, i.e. exercise-induced and allergic asthma.
