Salmeterol (LABA)

Are you sure? This is not the appropriate option for Amy because salmeterol, a long-acting beta-agonist (LABA), is contraindicated as a monotherapy in asthma and must always be combined with another drug. While salmeterol can provide bronchodilation and improve airflow, it does not treat the inflammation underlying Amy’s asthma. Using salmeterol alone increases the risk of severe asthma exacerbations and poor long-term outcomes due to inability to control inflammation and desensitization of beta-2 receptors.
