If you use antacids, it's better to use calcium carbonate

Dr. Demetriou refers Mr. Mason for an upper endoscopy and cultures. The next available appointment is in two weeks' time.

In the meantime, Mr. Mason is in a lot of discomfort and tries some of the new medication that you recommended. He is quite surprised that his pain and discomfort are exacerbated. He phones up Dr. Demetriou to ask if he could take some of his old 'stomach medication'. Dr. Demetriou agrees that this is a good idea and gives him appropriate advice in regards to the use of antacids. Dr. Demetriou reminds you that calcium salts may in fact increase release of gastrin and gastric acid and may not be the best option.

Dr. Demetriou asks you to go back and re-consider your advice.
