Verapamil

You: We should prescribe verapamil, right, Dr. Kyriacou?

Dr. Kyriacou: Well, you need to consider carefully what other drugs Mr. Garcia is taking. Verapamil is a non‑dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker with negative chronotropic and dromotropic effects and combining it with a beta blocker increases the risk of bradycardia, hypotension, and atrioventricular block. Mr. Garcia’s resting heart rate is already 65 bpm on bisoprolol, so adding verapamil could be harmful.

You: I understand, thank you, Dr. Kyriacou.

 Please go back and re‑consider.
