It is advisable to start aspirin rather than warfarin

The consultant is confused by your choice of drug and poor advice. Remember that aspirin is an anti-platelet drug and it is not very effective at treating venous thrombi in DVT and pulmonary embolism. Antiplatelet drugs, such as aspirin, are beneficial in prevention of arterial thrombi, such as those arising from ruptured atherosclerotic plagues, occluding blood vessels, such as coronary arteries, leading to myocardial infarction.
