Traits

Alice: ‘I think they are called traits.’

Dr Foster: ‘Actually, a trait generally describes an observable characteristic, such as eye color, wing shape, or even a more subtle biological function. Although these features do arise from genetic material, they do not represent the alternate versions of a gene. Instead, traits are the end results we look for when we examine how environmental influences and genetics combine to produce what we see in an organism’.

You immediately remember that traits are specific characteristic features stored within the genetic material of an organism and not alternative versions of genes.
