Prof. Jones: ‘Live specimens are in constant movement and they would not be ideal for SEM (or TEM) use. Also, the sample preparation for TEM samples involves fixing the specimen with heavy metal stains and for SEM samples it involves coating the specimen with gold or palladium ions, which are not ideal for live specimens.’
