Selective permeability

Prof. Smith: Great! Now let’s discuss the properties of solutions and how they influence osmosis. Does anybody remember?

You: If I remember correctly there are three types of solutions: hypertonic, isotonic and hypotonic.

Prof. Smith: Well-done! Actually, you have these three solutions in front of you. Can you differentiate them?

Does anybody remember what is the solution concentration in each solution?

Answer 1:

hypotonic is 0.9% NaCl, hypertonic is distilled water, isotonic is 6% NaCl

Answer 2:

hypotonic is distilled water, hypertonic is 6% NaCl, isotonic is 0.9% NaCl

Answer 3:

hypotonic is 6% NaCl, hypertonic is 0.9% NaCl, isotonic is distilled water

Pick one Answer:

Answer 1 - hypotonic is 0.9% NaCl, hypertonic is distilled water, isotonic is 6% NaCl
Answer 2 - hypotonic is distilled water, hypertonic is 6% NaCl, isotonic is 0.9% NaCl
Answer 3 - hypotonic is 6% NaCl, hypertonic is 0.9% NaCl, isotonic is distilled water
