Ask the GP to see Rory at homeYou call the GP, but cannot get through directly and leave a message with the receptionist. You return to see the 2 year old with dehydration and the 6 weeker with difficulty in breathing. Six hours later there is another urgent call to the resus area in ED. Rory has been brought back in by ambulance. He was found to be unresponsive at home by his mother, who called the ambulance. The crew found him apnoeic but with a heart rate of 60/min. They used bag-valve-mask ventilation to improve his oxygenation and brought him to the ED. The intensive care team have now intubated him and he is about to go to the CT scanner. A broad spectrum antibiotic is given first in case of overwhelming infection. After the scan he is admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit. The scan is also available.
The intensive care team ask for your advice about how he should now be investigated. What would you like to do next? |
