Learning Objectives:

After the completion of the Laboratory exercise students should be able to:

1. Explain the process of isolation for genomic DNA from a tissue sample and its potential applications.

2. Explain the principles and process of a PCR, using genotyping of transgenic mice as an example. 

3. Analyze and interpret the results of a PCR experiment with gel electrophoresis, using as an example the genotyping of transgenic mice.

4. Identify and explain the most common causes of failure in a PCR experiment.
