Propranolol

While you write up the drug chart, you start thinking about the clinical indications of propranolol in liver failure. You remember that this non-selective beta-blocker is useful in patients with esophageal varices as prophylaxis against variceal rupture and bleeding in chronic liver failure.

You look over to Andrew, whose signs and symptoms are suggestive of severe acute liver failure. You realize that prophylaxis for oesophageal bleeding is not your therapeutic goal at this stage.

Please go back and re-consider.
