Serum sodium

The cardiologist agrees that spironolactone may alter the levels of sodium. Remember that spironolactone blocks the action of aldosterone by competing for binding at its receptor. By doing so more sodium is excreted. However remember that only about 3% of sodium is re-absorbed here so the effects on plasma levels of this electrolyte are not expected to warrant monitoring.

Please go back and re-consider.
