Inhalational fluticasoneThis option would be considered inappropriate in this situation. Although inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), such as fluticasone, are excellent for long-term asthma control, they are too slow-acting to address the immediate inflammation of an acute attack. They are indicated as part of maintenance therapy, not during an acute exacerbation. Amy will still continue her maintenance ICS-LABA/montelukast therapy after resolving the acute episode, but this cannot substitute for another drug to address the inflammation that is still occurring during the acute attack. Let’s give it another go! |
