METABOLISM OF THE CELL ENZYME

Effect of pH and temperature on enzyme activity

Learning Objectives:

After the completion of the Laboratory exercise students should be able to:

1. Distinguish the terms substrate, active site and product in the context of enzymatic activity.

2. Explain the main factors that affect enzymatic activity.

3. Describe the experimental steps to identify an enzyme’s optimal pH and temperature, using amylase as an example.

4. Interpret the results to identify the optimal temperature and pH for enzyme activity, using amylase as an example.

NOTE: There is valuable information in the wrong choices as well so feel free to go back and explore all the options!
