Iodine Test

Dr. Brown explains that the iodine test is used to test for the presence of starch, not glucose. It can be useful in other settings, for example in the food industry, this test is utilized to verify the presence of starch in food products, which is important for quality control and nutritional analysis.

You take this opportunity to revise the iodine test. Referring to your lab manual you note that to perform the test, 1 mL of a fresh solution of 1% starch is added to a few drops of iodine solution in a well plate. This may also be done using a white tile on which drops of starch and iodine solution are mixed together. A blue-black color indicates the presence of starch, as shown in the image below (2 bottom wells).
